Artist Statement:

I’m a narrative painter.  I love storytelling and delving into the awkward workings of the human psyche.  I’m inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper, Lucien Freud and Andrew Wyeth among others. I want my work to awaken old memories and relate to the viewer through familiar sensations. Because of this, I limit my subject material to my own everyday experiences, often working from memory or painting on site.  I believe I communicate with the most honestly and authority when I describe something familiar to me.
For the last ten years, I've tended bar at the Blue Moon, an eclectic local tavern. The bar and its regulars appear frequently in my paintings.  I also play roller derby for Seattle's local league, The Rat City Roller Girls. The league also has provided for my work.

I live in Seattle, Washington, and recently earned a BFA in painting and drawing from the University of Washington.  Ann Gale, one of my professors, played a key role in the development of my work and she continues to be one of my primary influences.
